My first tip!!!
Always always LONG legs!
When your asking your horse to go forward, to move laterally or to do nothing at all...keep your legs as long as possible. Lifting your heel and bending your knee will not allow your seat to stay grounded or the alignment of your body to stay correct which will muddle up the connection and conversation your having with your horse. Many of you will have this problem especially in latteral movements so make a habit of mentally checking your leg position before applying the aid until it becomes second nature.
